KTDA’s newly appointed National Chairman, Mr. Chege Kirundi, has outlined a new strategic vision to ensure the long-term sustainability of the tea industry for smallholder farmers managed by the organization.
During a weekend meeting in Nakuru with over 160 directors from the Western Rift Valley, Mr. Kirundi unveiled a shift in focus, introducing a guiding principle centered around “Farmers First.”
Acknowledging the significant changes in the business environment since KTDA’s formation as a parastatal in 1964 and its subsequent privatization in 2000, Kirundi emphasized that the board is actively revising existing policies and creating new ones to improve returns for farmers from their tea investments.
Highlighting the importance of sustainability across all sectors of the business, Mr. Kirundi stressed the need for strong leadership and ongoing engagement with stakeholders to effectively address the challenges within the industry.
He also noted that overcoming these challenges will require a collaborative, proactive approach from all involved.
