Friday, March 21, 2025 – The media industry is in mourning following the tragic death of KBC journalist Fredrik Parsayo.
In an official statement, KBC expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing Parsayo as a valuable member of their editorial team.
“Fredrik was a beloved member of our newsroom, and his absence will be profoundly felt by all who had the honor of knowing and working with him,” the statement read.
New details are now emerging surrounding the circumstances of Parsayo’s death, revealing that he took his own life.
Aoko Otieno shared that Parsayo had been struggling with depression due to ongoing salary delays. He had not been paid for several months, which contributed to his emotional distress.
The late journalist also battled alcoholism after his wife left him, leaving him unable to care for their young child due to the financial hardships.
His death comes at a time when KBC is grappling with significant leadership challenges, as employees voice their frustrations over salary delays, widespread layoffs, and allegations of executive overreach by the newly appointed Managing Director, Florence Migunde.
