Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has fired back at President William Ruto, accusing him of being a mentally unstable leader who lies “without blinking,” calling it Kenya’s greatest existential threat.

The heated exchange follows Ruto’s televised interview, where he alleged that Gachagua demanded KSh 10 billion to secure Mt Kenya’s political support, warning that he would make Ruto a one-term president if the demand was not met.

Gachagua Slams Ruto Over “Lies”

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Gachagua dismissed Ruto’s claims as a smear campaign aimed at tarnishing his reputation.

“I am now convinced more than ever before that pathological lying is a mental disorder. The greatest existential threat to our beloved country is outright lying to the people of Kenya without blinking and failure by a leader to put his team together to harmonize their lies. I weep for my country, Kenya,” Gachagua wrote.

Gachagua’s remarks came in response to Ruto’s explosive interview with vernacular radio stations, where the president detailed their fallout and accused his former deputy of political sabotage.

Ruto’s Allegations Against Gachagua

During the interview, Ruto accused Gachagua of attempting political blackmail, insisting that he refused to comply with his demand for KSh 10 billion.

“I said I’ll not do it,” Ruto affirmed, emphasizing his commitment to democratic governance over backroom deals.

Ruto further alleged that his fallout with Gachagua was fueled by the former DP’s intimidation of MPs and efforts to sabotage government unity for personal political gain.

“Every day there were new cases, ‘Itumbi said this,’ ‘Farouk did that.’ Then it became attacks on MPs, threats that they must kneel or be sent home by December,” Ruto revealed.

The president claimed that Gachagua waged political wars against key allies, including Farouk Kibet, Dennis Itumbi, Ndindi Nyoro, and Kimani Ichung’wah, destabilizing his administration.

Gachagua Dares Ruto

Amid the escalating tensions, Gachagua challenged Ruto to name any development projects he had initiated in the Mt Kenya region. He claimed that all ongoing projects in the region were started by former President Uhuru Kenyatta, with some still unfinished.

Meanwhile, Ruto is set to launch various Mt Kenya projects, including the Naromoru Level IV Hospital, as part of his regional tour.
