WASHINGTON — Former President Barack Obama stole the spotlight at Michelle Obama’s book event in Washington.
The former first lady is currently on a national tour promoting her memoir, Becoming. On Saturday night, she took part in a conversation moderated by her longtime friend and former Obama White House adviser, Valerie Jarrett.
When the discussion turned to Michelle Obama’s feelings about her husband, Jarrett surprised the audience by announcing a “special guest,” and Barack Obama appeared on stage, holding a bouquet of pink roses for his wife.
The crowd at Capital One Arena erupted in applause.
Jarrett then asked Barack Obama what it was about Michelle that captured his heart when they first met at a Chicago law firm, where she was his mentor.
Barack Obama described Michelle as “one of a kind,” strong, honest, and someone he could always rely on. He added that he knew if she were the mother of his children, their kids would be “extraordinary.”
