Ottawa – Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has strongly condemned Israel’s blockade of food supplies to the Gaza Strip, urging the country to allow the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) to resume its humanitarian operations in the besieged enclave.

In a post on X, Carney asserted that food should never be used as a weapon. He referenced a recent WFP announcement stating that its food stocks in Gaza have been depleted due to the ongoing Israeli blockade.
Carney emphasized that Palestinian civilians should not suffer as a result of Israeli military actions and highlighted the urgent need for the WFP to restart its life-saving aid efforts.
Earlier, the World Food Programme confirmed it had distributed its final supplies to community kitchens serving hot meals in Gaza. The agency warned that these kitchens would soon run out of food, as no humanitarian or commercial shipments have entered the territory for more than seven weeks. All major border crossings remain closed, marking the longest blockade the region has experienced.
Meanwhile, Gaza’s Government Media Office reported on Monday that famine has become a stark reality for the territory’s 2.3 million residents.
Since the collapse of a ceasefire on March 18, Israel’s ongoing military campaign in Gaza has resulted in the deaths of more than 1,900 Palestinians and the displacement of hundreds of thousands.
