“CUE identifies 15 universities issuing fraudulent degrees and diplomas.”

The Commission for University Education (CUE) has flagged 15 institutions for operating illegally within Kenya. In an official notice, CUE warned the public that academic certificates issued by these institutions will be considered fraudulent.

The institutions under scrutiny include Eldoret Bible College, Al-Munawwarah College, Grace Life Bible College, Africa Theological Seminary, Kenya Anglican University, East African University, Bradgate International University, and Eldoret Bible College.

Other institutions listed include Regions Beyond Ministry Bible College, Baraton College, Africa Talent University, Breakthrough Bible College, Theophilus Theological College, Northwestern Christian University, Logos University, Harvest Land University, and Word of Faith Bible College.

Additionally, the Commission highlighted 79 institutions that are authorized to operate in Kenya. These include both public and private universities, private university constituent colleges, and institutions holding letters of interim authority.

“For clarity, any institution that operates as a university or awards degrees but is not on the Commission’s list of approved institutions is deemed illegal, and their qualifications will not be recognized in Kenya,” the notice stated.

This announcement follows a recent raid by police officers and CUE officials on Northwestern Christian University’s graduation ceremony in Mombasa due to its lack of accreditation.

As a result, 100 degrees were revoked, and university officials were arrested.

In response to the raid, CUE Chair Prof. Chacha Nyaigotti reiterated the Commission’s commitment to shutting down illegal institutions across the country.

“When we identify institutions falsely presenting themselves as legitimate degree-awarding bodies, it’s our responsibility to end this illegal activity,” he said.
