“EACC Recovers KSh 45 Million of Public Land Grabbed in Karen”

NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 17 – The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has successfully reclaimed a valuable parcel of public land along Mukoma Road in Karen, Nairobi, estimated to be worth around Sh45 million.

The land had been illegally allocated to private individuals despite its designation for public use.

The property, L.R. 2270/71, covering 0.029 hectares, was initially surrendered to the government in 1994 for the development of a public access road. However, in 1996, it was illegally transferred to private ownership.

In a ruling by Hon. Lady Justice Lucy Mbugua, the court declared the land as public property, stating that its transfer was “illegal, unlawful, fraudulent, and corrupt, hence void.”

The court further ordered the cancellation of the title deed and instructed that the land be returned to Nairobi City County as a public utility plot.

The EACC hailed the ruling, reiterating its commitment to recovering public assets wrongfully acquired through corruption.
