On the third day of President William Ruto’s development tour in Nairobi, his convoy passed through Uthiru and Dagoretti, unveiling several key development initiatives for the area.
Accompanied by Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja and other local leaders, President Ruto visited the Mutuini Hospital expansion project in Nairobi County, which is set to undergo significant upgrades.
While addressing residents, Ruto assured them that the hospital would be completed within four months and officially opened by August 2025.

“This facility is vital for Nairobi’s residents, and we are committed to ensuring its timely completion. The contractors will be on-site, and I will return in August for its official opening,” Ruto assured.
Governor Sakaja echoed Ruto’s pledge, stressing the county’s commitment to enhancing healthcare services.
“The expansion will reduce congestion at major referral hospitals in Nairobi by introducing specialized services, including a new ICU, HDU, expanded pharmacy, laboratories, and specialized clinics for pediatric, gynecological, and renal care,” Sakaja explained.
In addition to healthcare, the government is focused on upgrading trade infrastructure. President Ruto and Governor Sakaja launched the groundbreaking ceremony for the Riruta Modern Market in Dagoretti South, a project designed to support small-scale traders.
The Riruta market is part of a larger initiative that includes the construction of additional markets in Majimazuri, Jogoo Road, and Kangemi.
In Mutuini Ward, over 600 traders will benefit from the development of a new modern market, which will offer safe and organized business spaces. The market will also feature a daycare center to help mothers manage both their businesses and childcare responsibilities.
“We’ve agreed that this market will be ready in two months, and we will assist traders with capital to enhance their businesses,” President Ruto stated.
Governor Sakaja reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to modernizing trade spaces, in line with his goal of building at least 20 new markets across Nairobi.
“It’s time to get to work and deliver. We must put aside our differences and divisive politics to serve the people of this county and country. We remain committed to fulfilling all our promises,” Sakaja emphasized.
Additionally, the two leaders laid the foundation stone for the Dagoretti Jitume Centre of Excellence, a significant project aimed at promoting digital skills and innovation for the youth. They also toured the Kawangware Primary Junior Secondary School Tuition Block.
The development tour will continue throughout the week, with more projects set to be launched across Nairobi.
