Rigathi Gachagua’s camp has come under heavy criticism for speaking negatively about former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Gathoni Wamuchomba defended Uhuru as the undisputed kingpin of Mt. Wamuchomba declared Uhuru as the undisputed kingpin of Mt. Kenya. Meanwhile, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua continues to assert himself as the region’s leader, claiming to hold the “keys” to the mountain vote. Gachagua has been on an aggressive campaign in Mt. Kenya following his dramatic fallout with President William Ruto, which led to his impeachment in late 2024.Rigathi Gachagua’s camp has faced sharp criticism for speaking negatively about former President Uhuru Kenyatta. Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba came to Uhuru’s defense, declaring him the undisputed kingpin of Mt. Kenya and accusing allies of Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) of hypocrisy. Wamuchomba warned that attacking Uhuru is tantamount to attacking Kiambu County, emphasizing that Gachagua holds no real influence over the Mt. Kenya vote.

In a fiery Facebook post, Wamuchomba blasted Gachagua’s allies—particularly members of the DCP led by deputy party leader Cleophas Malala—for their repeated attacks on Uhuru. She described Uhuru as the unchallenged Mt. Kenya leader and said that targeting him is disrespectful to Kiambu residents. “It’s disheartening to see mountain people turn on each other for political gain. This sense of entitlement is excessive. Before DCP, there was Jubilee, UDA, DP, and others. No one owns the eight million votes of Mt. Kenya. As we said before, hatupangwingwi (we don’t interfere),” she wrote.
Wamuchomba praised Uhuru’s leadership record, noting that during his decade in office, he was never impeached nor did he attempt to impeach his deputy. She called him a unifying figure who now has the freedom to endorse a successor—even if that person is not her. “Uhuru is the undisputed kingpin of the mountain, and this was never forced on us. Despite his flaws, he was never impeached nor impeached his deputy. He united the country and is free to support whoever he wishes to succeed him, even if it’s not me,” she said.
She further accused Gachagua’s camp of double standards, questioning their desire to inherit Uhuru’s political machinery while simultaneously discrediting him. “If all the negative things said about him during the swearing-in of the Kenya Kwanza government are true, why do you want to inherit his messy party? Is inheritance forced? Attacking Uhuru is an attack on Kiambu County and Kenya as a whole. Let it be clear—if you attack Uhuru, you attack Kiambu. We are watching,” she warned.

Wamuchomba also cautioned against what she described as the “demeaning” of leaders, stressing that Kiambu is not a colony of Nyeri—Gachagua’s home county. She urged Mt. Kenya politicians to respect democracy and allow leaders the freedom of association. According to her, Gachagua’s camp was hurt after Uhuru endorsed former CS Fred Matiang’i to run for presidency in 2027. She encouraged disgruntled leaders to engage in dialogue instead of bad-mouthing Uhuru. “If you feel betrayed by Uhuru for courting Matiang’i, when did you agree that you are next in line? We live in a democratic country, and everyone has the right to associate freely. Kiambu is not Nyeri’s colony. With respect to Nyeri people, this trend of demeaning leaders must stop,” she stated.
The lawmaker described Uhuru as a statesman admired both inside and outside Mt. Kenya and urged leaders to focus on working hard to surpass him instead of engaging in smear campaigns.Rigathi Gachagua’s camp has faced sharp criticism for speaking negatively about former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
